Hospital flower rules in New Zealand

Most New Zealand hospitals do not publish a flower rule at all. These are the ones that do. Intensive care, burns, cancer and neonatal units are the usual exceptions, so name the ward on your order and call ahead if you are unsure.

We have read the visitor pages of New Zealand’s public hospitals and hospices and kept the ones that actually say something about flowers. For each one we quote the rule, note which wards it covers and give the address to put on the order. Of the 40 on this list, 11 welcome flowers, 15 keep them out of some wards and 3 do not allow them anywhere. If the hospital you need is missing, it has not published a rule: ring the ward, or send the flowers to the patient’s home.

  • Flowers welcome 11
  • Restricted in some wards 15
  • Check with the ward 9
  • Discouraged 2
  • No flowers allowed 3
