Sending flowers to Whangārei Hospital
Whangārei Hospital on Maunu Road is run by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in the Te Tai Tokerau district. It is one of the more straightforward hospitals in the country for flowers: the hospital's own page tells patients that bouquets come straight to them.
Order by 2 pm on weekdays (11 am Saturdays) for same-day delivery in many areas
- Ward rules quoted from the hospital
- Name and ward on the card
- Local florists deliver the flowers

Flowers are delivered to the patient as soon as they arrive.
“Flowers: Your flowers will be delivered to you as soon as they arrive.”
Delivered as soon as they arrive
Health NZ's page for the hospital says: "Flowers: Your flowers will be delivered to you as soon as they arrive." There is no list of flower-free wards. That means a florist can bring your order to the hospital, and staff will take it up to the patient.
Addressing your order
The hospital's mail format is a good model for flowers too. It uses the patient's name, ward number, Whangārei Hospital, Private Bag 9742, Whangārei. For a florist, give:
- the patient's full name
- the ward name or number, if you know it
- Whangārei Hospital, Maunu Road, Whangārei 0110
If you are not sure of the ward, the hospital's main number is 09 430 4100.
Visiting hours at Whangārei Hospital
Visiting hours are 11am to 8pm every day. Because flowers are passed on as they arrive, you do not need to time the delivery around visiting.
Good choices for a hospital bedside
Even where flowers are welcome, a few small choices make life easier for patients and nurses:
- Pick an arrangement that comes in its own container, so no one has to find a vase.
- Choose lightly scented flowers for shared rooms.
- In Northland's warmer months, ask for flowers that cope with heat; our guide on making flowers last in a Kiwi summer explains how.
If the person is very unwell or in a high-care unit, it is still sensible to ring the ward first.

Parking and getting there
Health NZ says Whangārei Hospital has more than 300 public car parks, with 33 accessible disability spaces near the main entrance. There is a bus stop by the public car park on Maunu Road (Highway 14). The hospital and grounds are smokefree and vape free at all times, and free WiFi is available through the Hospital Hotspot network.
