Order flowersHamilton, Kirikiriroa, is the Waikato's main city, with about 192,100 people living along the Waikato River. Flowers sent here often go to a hospital patient, a new graduate or a family marking a loss, and the city has a strong garden culture of its own. Below we cover what matters before you order.

Waikato Hospital is the region's main public hospital. Flowers are not allowed in Critical Care (ICU and HDU, on Level 4 of the Meade Clinical Centre), because patients with fragile lungs are often there. No rule is published for other wards, and there is a florist on Level 1. Check with the ward before sending.
Hamilton also has two private hospitals, Braemar Hospital and Southern Cross Hospital. Neither has a flower rule in our sources, so ring ahead, and always put the patient's full name and ward on the order.
Hamilton Gardens is a 54-hectare park on the river with enclosed themed gardens, lawns, a lake and a nursery. Its Cultivar Collection includes the Rogers Rose Garden, Hammond Camellia Garden, Rhododendron Lawn and the Victorian Flower Garden. The enclosed gardens are open 10am to 6pm every day except Christmas Day.
Each year the Rogers Rose Garden hosts the Pacific Rose Bowl Festival, where the public votes for the New Zealand Rose of the Year. The 2026 festival runs from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November and is free. If you are sending roses to someone in Hamilton around then, you are in good company.
Other dates on the city's calendar include the Hamilton Arts Festival Toi Ora ki Kirikiriroa at the Gardens in late summer (in 2026 it ran from 20 February to 1 March) and Balloons over Waikato every April.
The city's cemeteries are Hamilton Park Cemetery at Newstead, Hamilton East Cemetery (inside Hamilton Gardens), Hamilton West Cemetery and the Hamilton Crematorium. For a funeral, flowers usually go to the funeral home or the family home rather than the cemetery. Our sympathy flower guide covers card wording and timing, and our tangihanga guide explains what to bring to a marae.
Hamilton is one of the foggiest cities on earth. Winter mornings often bring ground frost, with around 17 nights a year below freezing. Flowers left on a doorstep on a frosty morning can suffer, so give a phone number on the order so the florist can reach the recipient. Our flower care guide has more tips.
Nearby towns such as Cambridge and Te Awamutu have their own pages.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Hamilton.
