Sending flowers to Rotorua Hospital
Rotorua Hospital, on Pukeroa Street, is run by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora for the Lakes district, which covers Rotorua and Taupō. Health NZ has published one specific flower rule for the hospital that you should know about.

“Do not bring flowers and plants because they can create a risk of infection.”
No flowers or plants in intensive care
The Rotorua Hospital intensive care page says: "Do not bring flowers and plants because they can create a risk of infection." If someone you love is in ICU, hold back on flowers until they move to a ward or go home. A card or message for the nurses to pass on is a good stand-in.
Other wards: ask first
Health NZ has not published a flower rule for Rotorua Hospital's other wards. That leaves it to the ward, so check with the ward before sending. The hospital's number is 07 348 1199.
When you contact the hospital about a patient, Health NZ asks you to give the full name of the patient and the ward they are in, if you know it. Use the same details on your flower order.
Visiting Rotorua Hospital
- Visiting hours are 8am to 8pm, every day.
- A support person may visit outside these hours with the approval of the clinical nurse manager.
- No more than 2 people are recommended at a patient's bedspace or room at a time.
- In ICU, visiting is from 8am and the main doors close at 8pm; use the intercom outside the doors to be let in.
Thoughtful choices for a ward
If the ward is happy to accept flowers, a compact arrangement in its own container is easiest for staff, and lightly scented flowers suit shared rooms. Our hay fever guide covers low-pollen choices.
For flowers to a home in the city or nearby Ngongotaha, see flower delivery in Rotorua. The Bay of Plenty page covers the wider region.
Parking and the main entrance
The main entrance is on Pukeroa Street, where staff can direct you to departments. Health NZ says there are more than 300 free spaces on campus, reserved for people visiting or using the hospital, and the main car park is reached from Pukeroa Street near the ED entrance. A taxi stand with a free phone sits near the main desk.
Bay Bus Route 6 arrives and departs from the hospital grounds close to the main entrance, and the Hato Hone St John Waka Ora health shuttle also serves the hospital.
Services and refreshments
The hospital has an emergency department, a maternity unit, mental health services and outpatient clinics including oncology, cardiology and paediatrics. The one published flower rule is for intensive care, so for patients on any other ward, ask the ward.
The Vibe Garden Café is open daily from 7am to 7pm, and a coffee kiosk operates in the atrium. Interpreter services are provided, and the whole hospital is smoke-free.
