Where flowers are not allowed
According to Health NZ, flowers are not allowed in:
- intensive care unit (ICU)
- neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
- ward 7 south
If the patient is in one of these, check with the ward before sending, or plan flowers for when they move or go home.
The address to use
Health NZ says to send flowers to: Wellington Regional Hospital, 49 Riddiford Street, Newtown, Wellington 6021. It adds that "Anything you send to a patient should be clearly marked with the patient's name and ward." Letters and parcels use a Private Bag address instead, so make sure your florist uses the street address.
A clear label matters in a hospital of this size. Include the patient's full name as the hospital will know it, and the ward name or number. If you do not know the ward, ring the hospital before ordering rather than guessing.
Gift shop in the atrium
The hospital gift shop in the main atrium sells flowers, gifts and soft toys, and takes orders online or by phone for delivery to patients. It is open 8:30am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm at weekends.

Visiting hours are 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 8pm, 7 days a week. Visits to PACU, ICU and ED are by negotiation with the team leader. The hospital's number is 04 385 5999.
