Order flowersŌtaki is the northernmost town of the Wellington Region, about 70 km from both Wellington and Palmerston North, with about 5,260 people. Since December 2022 the Kāpiti Expressway has let through traffic bypass the town. The district takes in Te Horo, Hautere, Manakau and the beach settlement of Waikawa Beach, so check exactly where your recipient lives.

Ōtaki has three marae of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga; Pukekaraka Marae was the site of a Catholic mission from 1842. Rangiātea Church, built under Te Rauparaha and missionary Octavius Hadfield and completed in 1851, was New Zealand's oldest Māori Anglican church until arson destroyed it in 1995; a replica was completed in 2003. If you are sending condolences for a tangihanga, our tangihanga guide explains what to bring and what to write.
Ōtaki Cemetery at the end of Anzac Road covers 3.9 hectares. It is the oldest cemetery in Kāpiti and was the first to offer natural burials. Te Awahou Funeral Services, based in Foxton, has an Ōtaki office at 202–204 Main Highway. Funeral flowers are usually sent to the funeral home or the family. If the burial is a natural one, ask the family whether they would like flowers at all; our sympathy flower guide covers other options.
Ōtaki Beach runs between the Ōtaki River and the Waitohu Stream. Ocean View Residential Care at 56–58 Marine Parade, Ōtaki Beach, provides aged residential care. Include the resident's full name and room on the order. For more about the beach settlement, see our Ōtaki Beach page.
The district around Ōtaki is agricultural, with market gardens and lifestyle blocks. Rural addresses use an RD number; write it exactly as the recipient does, add a phone number, and allow extra time. Weekend delivery is limited in many rural areas. The town is busy on its festival days too: it hosts the annual Māoriland Film Festival, celebrating indigenous film since 2014, and the Otaki Kite Festival.
Because the Ōtaki district takes in Te Horo, Hautere, Manakau and Waikawa Beach, a recipient who says they live in Ōtaki may actually be some distance out of town. Ask for the full address, including the locality and any RD number, and add a phone number.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Ōtaki.
