Order flowersLevin, Taitoko, is the main town of the Horowhenua District and had 19,533 residents at the 2023 census, with a median age of 43.7. It grew up around the railway, which arrived in 1886, and is named after William Hort Levin, a director of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company. Today it is a service centre for the farms around it, with the Tararua Range to the east and Lake Horowhenua, about 3.9 km², to the west.

The Horowhenua Health Centre at 62 Liverpool Street has no emergency department. A health shuttle links it to Palmerston North Hospital, so a patient from Levin is often in Palmerston North. Most wards at Palmerston North Hospital are flower free; check with the ward before sending or bringing flowers. A delivery to the patient's home in Levin once they are discharged is usually the safer choice.
Levin has a good number of aged-care homes for a town its size. Eldernet lists these in Levin:
Write the resident's full name and the home's name on the order, and pick a compact arrangement that fits on a bedside table. For dementia care, a simple posy in a stable container is easier for staff to manage than a large bouquet.
Horowhenua District Council manages seven cemeteries, including Old Levin Cemetery and Avenue Cemetery; bookings go through the council offices in Levin and Foxton. Harvey Bowler Funerals has its office at 284 Oxford Street, Levin. For a funeral, ask the funeral director or the family where flowers should go – usually the funeral home or the family home rather than the cemetery.
Kawiu Marae and its meeting house, Te Huia o Raukura, serve the Muaūpoko people. If you are sending condolences for a tangihanga, our tangihanga guide explains what is appropriate.
Levin gets about 1,053.9 mm of rain a year, and its records run from about 32.6 °C in January to −5.4 °C in July. Both ends of that range are hard on flowers left outside. Put the recipient's phone number on the order so the florist can reach them, and suggest a sheltered spot on the delivery note. Our flower care guide explains how to keep a bouquet fresh for longer.
Much of the Horowhenua was once wetland and has been drained into farmland, so many people around Levin live on rural roads with an RD address. Copy the address exactly as the recipient writes it; rural addresses can take longer, and weekend delivery is limited in many areas. For the coast to the south, see Ōtaki.
Levin's two secondary schools are Horowhenua College, opened in 1940, and Waiopehu College, opened in 1973. A note mentioning a school prize-giving or an end of exams is a natural reason to send flowers to a student. The clock tower, built in 1999 by Levin Rotary Club, is the town's best-known landmark – a familiar reference for a card sent from far away.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Levin.
