Order flowersWestport, Kawatiri, was founded in 1861 and is the oldest European settlement on the West Coast. About 4,600 people live here, and Art Deco buildings such as the Clock Tower Chambers were built after the 1929 Murchison earthquake. Sending flowers to Westport takes a little thought about weather and roads, so here is what we know.

Buller Health at 46B Cobden Street is the local public hospital and health centre. We have not found a published flower rule for it, so ring ahead and include the patient's full name. The O'Conor Memorial Home at 190 Queen Street provides aged residential care; put the resident's name and room on the order and choose an arrangement in its own vase.
Orowaiti Cemetery on Utopia Road is the Westport cemetery open for interments, one of four council cemeteries in Buller. Hagedorns Buller Funeral Services has its office and chapel at 123 Derby Street. The business began in 1897, when FW Hagedorn & Sons, Westport cabinet-makers, started making coffins. Flowers for a service are normally sent to the funeral home or the family; our sympathy flower guide explains the customs, and Te Taha o Te Awa Marae, which belongs to Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, may host a tangihanga (see our tangihanga guide).
Westport gets heavy Tasman Sea rainfall in every month, yet is often prone to drought. The town is also prone to serious flooding, notably in 2021 and February 2022. In bad weather, roads can be affected and deliveries may take longer, so order early and add a phone number so the florist can reach the recipient. The only road to Karamea runs north from Westport, so addresses up that way need extra time.
Council parks in town include Victoria Square on Brougham Street, Kilkeny Park, Rayner Park and the Westport Public Domain. Nearby, Cape Foulwind and Tauranga Bay with its large fur seal colony draw visitors. For other West Coast towns, see Greymouth or our West Coast region page.
For a funeral, flowers can go to Hagedorns Buller Funeral Services at 123 Derby Street, where the office and chapel are. For a resident of the O'Conor Memorial Home on Queen Street, write their full name and room. For addresses north towards Karamea, remember there is only one road, and allow extra time if the weather has been bad.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Westport.
