Order flowersMotueka is a Tasman town of about 8,290 people (June 2025 urban-area estimate) near the mouth of the Motueka River on Tasman Bay. Its name, more correctly Motuweka, means weka island. Horticulture is the main local industry: the district has apple, pear and kiwifruit orchards and grows specialised crops such as hops. Riwaka is 4.8 km to the north, and Nelson is 41.7 km east by road.

Valentine’s in a Kiwi summer

Sunny stems for a recovery
Motueka's population rises with seasonal workers, especially in late summer and early autumn for the apple pick, so orchard addresses get busy. Rural properties use an RD number where a suburb would normally appear, written like "RD 1" with no dots or spaces inside "RD". The mailtown on a rural address is where the rural round is based, so it may not match the place the property is in. To help the florist:
The Motueka area has one of New Zealand's highest annual sunshine totals, with about 1,270 mm of rain a year. NIWA normals give a mean daily maximum of 23.7 °C in January and February and a record high of 36.2 °C, while July nights average just 1.2 °C. June is the wettest month. Sun is good for orchards but hard on a bouquet left outside, so ask for a handover in person and suggest the recipient puts the flowers in cool water straight away. Our flower care guide explains more.
Residential care homes in town include Jack Inglis Aged Care Home at 15A Courtney Street and Woodlands Rest Home and Village at 6 Edgewood Crescent. A compact arrangement already in a vase is the easiest gift for a resident. Give the resident's full name and the name of the home, and if they are unwell, check with the staff first.
We have no hospital listed in Motueka itself. If someone has been admitted to Nelson Hospital in Nelson, note that the former Nelson Marlborough DHB has advised that patients who are immunocompromised, in isolation, or in the ICU, HDU, IMCU or SCBU (special care baby unit) areas should not receive flowers. The current Health New Zealand page does not mention flowers, so check with the ward before sending.
A funeral and cremation service is based at 57 High Street; its crematorium opened in 1995. Motueka Cemetery is one of 12 cemeteries managed by Tasman District Council. Further along High Street, St Thomas's Anglican church (built 1911) and St Andrew's church are both category two historic places. For a service, send flowers to the funeral director or venue, and include the full name of the person who has died and the date and time of the service.
Te Āwhina Marae in Motueka is a marae for Ngāti Rārua and Te Atiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui. If you are sending condolences to a tangihanga, read our guide to tangihanga and condolences first.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Motueka.
