Order flowersWairoa lies on State Highway 2 between Napier and Gisborne, in the Hawke's Bay region. About 4,720 people live in the urban area (June 2025 estimate). It is a town with deep Māori roots and some lovely old buildings – and it is also a town where the road matters, so a little planning helps your flowers arrive.

Wairoa has had serious floods – Cyclone Bola in 1988, Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023 and again in June 2024. After Gabrielle, SH2 between Napier and Wairoa was closed until May 2023. When the weather is bad or the highway is affected, deliveries into the town can be delayed. Order early, avoid tight deadlines, and add the recipient's phone number so the florist can arrange a time. For rural addresses, use the RD number exactly as the recipient writes it, and expect rural deliveries to take longer.
Wairoa Health at 36 Kitchener Street is the town's public hospital and health centre, with a 24-hour level 2 emergency department. We have not found a published flower rule for it, so check with the ward before sending, and include the patient's full name. If the patient is likely to be discharged soon, flowers to their home are a safe option.
The town has many Ngāti Kahungunu marae, and the Tākitimu waka is said to have landed at Mākeakea, near today's Tākitimu meeting house. If the farewell is a tangihanga at a marae, read our guide to tangihanga and condolences, and ask a family friend what is appropriate before sending flowers.
Wairoa's council cemetery is on Fraser Road. Wairoa District Council cemeteries offer ash burial, but ash scattering is not permitted. For a funeral home service, send flowers to the funeral director with the full name of the person who has died and the service date. Our funeral flower etiquette guide covers card wording.
Heritage Lifecare Glengarry at 21 Glengarry Place, North Clyde, provides aged residential care. For a resident, a compact arrangement in a vase is easiest for staff. Include the resident's full name.
Wairoa has hosted the annual Wairoa Māori Film Festival since 2005, partly at the restored Art Deco Gaiety Cinema and Theatre. The Wairoa Agricultural & Pastoral Society, established in 1899, runs an annual show with rodeo, dog trials, shearing and equestrian events – check the society's dates before sending congratulations. On Queen Street, St Peter's Catholic Church (completed in 1882, one of the town's oldest buildings) and St Andrew's Church are both Category 2 historic places, useful landmarks for a delivery nearby.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Wairoa.
