Order flowersTaupō is a lakeside town of about 27,000 people that hosts big sporting events most of the year. Flowers here often congratulate a finisher, wish someone well in hospital or comfort a grieving family, and a little local knowledge helps the bouquet arrive at the right time and in good condition.

Valentine’s in a Kiwi summer

Sunny stems for a recovery
Taupō has severe winter frosts, though snow in town is rare. The mean minimum in July is about -4.4 °C, while the record high is 33.2 °C in January. Summer averages range from about 10 to 23 °C, and January gets roughly 224 hours of sunshine against about 96 in June.
Taupō hosts Ironman New Zealand and the Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge, which draws about 5,000 riders. The 2026 Cycle Challenge is on Saturday 28 November, with riders finishing at the event village in central Taupō. Flowers for a finisher are a lovely touch, but on event weekends the town is busy and weekend delivery is limited in many areas anyway. Sending to the person's accommodation or home after the event, with their phone number on the order, is usually more reliable than aiming for race day.
Graduation season brings another reason to send flowers: the town's secondary schools include Tauhara College and Taupō-nui-a-Tia College.
Taupō Hospital is at 38 Kōtare Street, Hilltop. We have not found a published flower policy for it, so check with the ward before sending and include the patient's full name and ward on the order. It is also the nearest Health NZ hospital for Tūrangi, about 50 km away.
Healthpoint lists five aged residential care providers in Taupō: Bupa Liston Heights Care Home, Oceania Healthcare Wharerangi Care Centre, Summerset by the Lake, Monte Vista Retirement Village and Oceania Healthcare St Johns Wood Care Centre. Put the resident's full name and the facility's name on the order; a compact arrangement suits a resident's room.
Taupō Public Cemetery is on Rickit Street, and the council has stated that its vehicle gates are open daily from 7am to 5pm. It has a 1,500 square metre natural burial area where native trees are planted over the graves. The older Early Settlers Cemetery is on Lower Spa Road.
Taupo Funeral Services, also on Rickit Street (number 117), has the Founders Chapel of Remembrance, the smaller Founders Lounge Chapel seating 40, and an on-site crematorium. Sympathy flowers usually go to the funeral home or the family home; ask the family first. For a natural burial, a native plant can suit the spirit of the farewell, and our guide to funeral flower etiquette covers what to write on the card.
A short distance north of town, Huka Falls on the Waikato River often carries close to 220 cubic metres of water a second. Gardeners will know the Waipahihi Botanical Gardens in the suburb of Waipahihi. Either makes a nice mention on a card to someone who has just moved to Taupō. For other towns nearby, see the Waikato region.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Taupō.
