Flowers for Paeroa

Paeroa, a Hauraki District town of about 4,600 people, sits where State Highways 2 and 26 meet, about halfway between Auckland and Tauranga, close to the junction of the Waihou and Ohinemuri rivers. A giant L&P bottle on the main road marks it as the home of Lemon & Paeroa, originally made with lemon and carbonated mineral water from Paeroa. Here is what we know that helps when sending flowers to someone here.

Ohinemuri Lifecare on Keepa Avenue

Ohinemuri Lifecare at 24 Keepa Avenue provides aged residential care, and it is the only Paeroa facility on Healthpoint's aged-care listing. When you send flowers to a resident, include their full name and the home's name, and choose an arrangement that fits a small space.

Pukerimu Cemetery on Reservoir Road and the town's marae

Paeroa Public Cemetery, known locally as Pukerimu Cemetery, is on Reservoir Road about 2 km south-west of the town centre on SH2. It covers 6.57 ha and has been a burial ground since before 1855; Hauraki District Council has been preparing a new section that will include an ashes interment garden.

The Ngāti Tamaterā marae Taharua and Te Pai o Hauraki are in Paeroa, and Ngahutoitoi Marae is south of the town. If a loss is being marked at a marae, ask the whānau what is appropriate; our tangihanga guide can help.

Netherton, Tirohia and Karangahake addresses

The Paeroa Rural area around the town includes the localities of Netherton, Tirohia and Karangahake. For these, use the RD number exactly as the family gives it, add a phone number and gate notes, and allow extra time – rural addresses (RD numbers) can take longer, and NZ Post no longer delivers parcels to most rural addresses on Saturdays. Paeroa averages about 1,191.5 mm of rain a year, so a note about a covered spot at the door is worth adding.

February events and Paeroa's schools

Paeroa is known as the Events Capital of the Coromandel. February is its busy month: the Battle of the Streets motorcycle race and the Pipe Band Tattoo draw crowds from all over New Zealand and overseas. We have not verified 2027 dates, so check locally if you want flowers to arrive around them.

Paeroa College teaches Years 9–13, and the town also has Paeroa Central School, Miller Avenue School, St Joseph's Catholic School (established 1900), Paeroa Christian School (founded 1987) and Goldfields School, which serves ages 5–21. For prize-givings and leavers, see our graduation flowers guide.

A river port on the goldfields

Samuel Marsden visited the Raupa settlement in June 1820. Paeroa later became a river transport and distribution centre for the Ohinemuri goldfields – as late as 1928 the Waihou was still navigable for larger ships all the way up to the town – and a former National Bank gold refinery built in 1914 still stands in Willoughby Street. Nearby: Waihi, Thames and the Waikato region.
