Order flowersKatikati, a Western Bay of Plenty town of about 6,030 people on State Highway 2, was named 'Avocado Capital of New Zealand' in 2018 and is ringed by kiwifruit orchards. It is also New Zealand's Mural Town, with over 80 outdoor murals and sculptures around the township, and its Haiku Pathway holds the largest collection of haiku outside Japan. Below are the local details that help with rest-home, orchard and hospital deliveries.

Our data lists three aged residential care homes in the area:
Write the home's name and the resident's full name on the order. A compact arrangement or a pot plant is often easiest in a resident's room.
With orchards all around, plenty of recipients live on rural roads. Use the RD number exactly as given (for example "RD 1"), add a phone number and gate notes, and allow extra time – rural addresses can take longer, and NZ Post no longer delivers parcels to most rural addresses on Saturdays. Katikati's climate records run from a high of 31.4 °C in February to a low of −3.2 °C in July, so a sheltered drop-off spot in the delivery notes helps blooms in both seasons.
Katikati Cemetery on Hot Spring Road dates from 1878 and is open. It has a Returned Services section and a children's section; plots can only be bought for immediate use while the council confirms additional land. Elliotts Funeral Services has a Katikati branch on the corner of Main Road and Sheffield Street. Ask the funeral director where flowers should go. The area has two marae, Te Rere a Tukahia (Ngāi Te Rangi) and Tuapiro (Ngāti Ranginui); for a tangihanga, our tangihanga guide is a useful starting point.
Katikati was established by George Vesey Stewart, who brought two groups of mostly Irish settlers on the Carisbrook Castle (1875) and the Lady Jocelyn (1878); many were Ulster Scots from County Tyrone. Kauri gum digging became an important industry in the late 19th century. The first mural, 'Waitekohe School', went up in 1990, and the town now holds the biennial NZ Mural Contest & Art Festival. You can pick up a mural map from The Arts Junction on Main Road, learn the local history at the Western Bay Museum, or visit Waitekohekohe Recreational Park and the Sapphire Springs hot springs, 3 km south of town.
Katikati College (Years 7–13) and Katikati Primary School (Years 1–6) are the town's schools – our graduation flowers guide has ideas for end-of-year milestones.
There is no hospital in our data for Katikati itself. If your patient is at Tauranga Hospital, its Health NZ page says you can send flowers directly to the wards throughout the day. See our Tauranga Hospital page, or the Tauranga page for city deliveries.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Katikati.
