Order flowersNamed in 1862 after Governor Sir Thomas Gore Browne, Gore (Māruawai) is a Southland town of about 8,310 people, 64 km north-east of Invercargill. The Mataura River divides it into Gore and East Gore, which joined the borough in 1890, so check which side your recipient lives on and include the suburb. You will know you have arrived when you pass 'Trevor', the brown trout statue at the northern entrance.

Gore Hospital at 9 Birch Lane is run by Gore Health Limited. We have not found a published flower rule for it, so ring the ward before ordering and put the patient's full name and ward on the order.
If the person is at Southland Hospital in Invercargill instead, note that fresh flowers are not allowed in ICU, HDU, oncology, cardiovascular, respiratory, surgical or medical wards, or in multi-bed rooms; check with ward reception before sending.
Eldernet lists three care homes in Gore:
Add the resident's full name and room number.
Gore District Council runs Charlton Park Cemetery on Bowmar Road, commissioned in 1974 when the old Gore Cemetery on Crewe Street (established 1878) was filling up; Crewe Street now takes burials only in pre-purchased plots. Mataura Cemetery on Crawford Road serves the nearby town of Mataura. Interments are carried out daily except Sundays and public holidays.
East Gore Presbyterian Church, built in 1880, is one of two remaining wooden Gothic churches designed by R.A. Lawson. Funeral flowers are best sent to the funeral home or the family home; our sympathy flower guide explains what is customary.
The Gold Guitar Awards, New Zealand's country music awards, have been held in Gore every year since 1974. They take place each June as part of the Tussock Country Music festival. If someone you know is performing or celebrating a win, send flowers to their accommodation with the venue name, guest name and a phone number.
Gore's record low is −8.9 °C in August, and the average June night is just 1.9 °C, so flowers should not sit on a doorstep on a winter morning. Many recipients live on rural roads with an RD address: write 'RD' and the number without dots, followed by the mailtown and postcode. Rural addresses can take longer, and weekend delivery is limited in many areas. More towns are on our Southland region page.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Gore.
