Order flowersCromwell (Tīrau) is a Central Otago town of about 7,470 people on the shore of Lake Dunstan, known as the 'fruit bowl of the south' for its cherries and other stone fruit. A giant stone fruit sculpture, built by the Cromwell Rotary Club in 1990, stands at the north end of town. When Lake Dunstan was formed by the Clyde Dam, about a third of the town's buildings had to move, and the historic ones now form the Old Cromwell Town precinct.

Cromwell is served by Dunstan Hospital in nearby Clyde. Flowers are welcome there, but avoid lilies and strongly scented arrangements. Put the patient's full name on the order.
Eldernet lists two residential care homes in Cromwell: Golden View Care at 17 Iles Street, and Ripponburn Home & Hospital at 94 Kawarau Gorge Road, RD2. Ripponburn has a rural RD address, so copy it exactly. For either home, add the resident's full name and choose something compact and lightly scented.
Cromwell gets only about 400 mm of rain a year because it lies far inland. The January mean high is 24.9 °C and the record high is 36.6 °C, while the record low is −10.0 °C, and temperatures have dropped below freezing in every month from February to December. Dry air and summer heat are hard on cut flowers, and a bouquet left on a frosty step will not last. Ask for delivery when someone is home, add a phone number, and keep the vase topped up. Our flower care guide has practical tips.
The Litany Street cemetery, established in 1865, was Cromwell's first and is the resting place of a number of early gold miners, among them Chinese miners who came in search of gold. A second cemetery, the new Cromwell cemetery, was created in the early 1900s. St Andrew's Anglican church opened in 1874, and Mary Immaculate and the Irish Martyrs Catholic church, with its 20 m belltower, opened in April 1909.
Central Otago Funerals lists a Cromwell address at 5 McNulty Road. For a funeral, send flowers to the funeral home or the family home; our sympathy flower guide explains the customs.
Cromwell lies about 50 km from Wānaka, 60 km from Queenstown through the Kawarau Gorge and 33 km from Alexandra. If the recipient lives on an orchard or block outside town, the address will include an RD number; rural addresses can take longer, and weekend delivery is limited in many areas. For neighbouring towns, see Alexandra and Wānaka.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Cromwell.
