Order flowersAlexandra is a Central Otago town of about 5,860 people (June 2025 urban-area estimate) in the Otago region. Nectarines, apricots, cherries, peaches, plums and apples are grown around the town for New Zealand and export markets, so blossom is part of every spring here. It is also a place of climate extremes, which matters when you send flowers. Here is what we have gathered.

The Alexandra Blossom Festival has run every September since 1957 and calls itself New Zealand's longest running festival. The 2027 festival marks its 70th anniversary and runs from 24 to 26 September 2027, with a parade of floral floats and garden tours. If someone you know is building a float, opening a garden or simply celebrating with family that weekend, a spring bouquet suits the mood. Our guide to flowers in season shows what is at its best in early spring.
Alexandra is one of New Zealand's driest places, often with under 400 mm of rain a year. About 92 nights a year fall below 0°C, and summer highs reach the mid-30s°C. Both ends of that range are hard on cut flowers:
Our flower care guide has more ideas for dry, hot weather.
Alexandra does not have its own hospital; Dunstan Hospital in neighbouring Clyde, rebuilt in 2006, serves the surrounding district including Alexandra. Visitors are welcome to bring flowers, but the hospital asks people to avoid lilies and strongly scented arrangements, as these can cause allergic reactions for some patients and staff. When ordering, ask for a lightly scented, lily-free arrangement and include the patient's full name and ward.
For a funeral in Alexandra, send flowers to the funeral director or the service venue rather than to Alexandra Cemetery itself, and include the full name of the person who has died and the date and time of the service. A simple card with a few heartfelt words is enough.
Sending to a nearby town as well? See our page for Cromwell.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Alexandra.
