Order flowersDarfield is a Selwyn District town of about 3,590 people, known as 'the township under the nor'west arch', after the arch of cloud the nor'west wind forms over the Southern Alps. The weather here can swing quickly, and that is worth keeping in mind when you send flowers.

Darfield Hospital at 31 Mathias Street, contracted with Health New Zealand, offers rest home and hospital-level care. An old Canterbury DHB page (archived; last updated June 2022) listed a Darfield community maternity unit among those where flowers and potted plants were not allowed. The facility is now described as aged residential care, so check with the facility before sending. See our Darfield facility page.
Peaceful Pines Living (formerly Westmar Senior Care) at 12 Kimberley Road provides aged residential care including rest home and dementia care. Include the resident's full name and the home's name.
The dry Foehn wind from the nor'west can raise temperatures by several degrees an hour. Darfield averages eight days above 30 °C and 34 frosty nights a year, with a record low of −11.8 °C. Both extremes are hard on cut flowers:
Darfield (St Joseph's) Catholic Cemetery is in the church grounds on the corner of Bray Street and Telegraph Road. Kimberley Cemetery is on Kimberley Road in Kimberley, north of Darfield, reached from Waddington via Tramway Road and Kimberley Road. The town's churches include St Joseph's Catholic Church and Trinity Church (Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian). Sympathy flowers usually go to the funeral home or the family.
The Malvern A&P Show, the 128th annual show, is on Saturday 10 April 2027 at Sheffield Domain, West Coast Road, in Sheffield rather than Darfield itself. McHughs Forest Park north-west of Darfield was planted in 1893 with Douglas fir, macrocarpa, larch and other species and has walking tracks, and the town domain has duck ponds. Nearby, see Rolleston and the Canterbury region.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Darfield.
