Order flowersTuakau is a Waikato town near the Waikato River, home to around 6,090 people (June 2025 urban-area estimate). The name Tūākau is thought to refer to the high bluff overlooking the river – 'tū' to stand, 'ākau' river bank. The Alexandra Redoubt was built on that bluff in 1863, and the town grew about 2 km inland. Here is our guide to sending flowers to someone in Tuakau.

Two funeral homes are based in the town centre, which makes sending sympathy flowers straightforward:
Address the flowers to the funeral home, with the full name of the person who has died and the date and time of the service. Our funeral flower etiquette guide helps with card wording.
Tuakau Cemetery on Alexandra Redoubt Road has no new plots left; it is open only for burials in family or reserved plots. New burials go to Whangarata Urupaa/Cemetery on McCready Road. Flowers for a burial are best sent to the funeral home or service venue rather than to the cemetery itself.
Tuakau has two Waikato-Tainui marae: Ngā Tai e Rua Marae and Tauranganui Marae. If you are sending condolences for a tangihanga, the customs differ from a funeral home service, and it is worth asking the whānau or a family friend what is appropriate before you order. Our guide to tangihanga and condolences explains more.
There is no hospital in Tuakau itself. The nearest is Pukekohe Hospital, a Health NZ hospital at 1 Tuakau Road in Pukekohe, about 7 km away. It has no emergency department. We have not found a published flower rule for it, so check with the ward before sending. See our Pukekohe page for more.
The 230 m Tuakau Bridge over the Waikato River dates from 1933 and replaced a 1902 bridge that ended the need for a ferry. In town, the Dr John Lightbody Reserve on George Street has a swimming pool, sports fields, tennis and netball courts and a skate park. Add the recipient's phone number to your order, and for rural properties use the RD number exactly as the recipient writes it.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Tuakau.
