Nelson is known as "Sunny Nelson", with an average of over 2,400 sunshine hours a year. All that sun is lovely for gardens, but cut flowers in a warm, bright room fade faster. Ask the recipient to keep the vase away from windows, and see our guide on making flowers last in a Kiwi summer.
For local detail, including suburbs and occasions, see our Nelson flower delivery page.
If you are sending to someone who loves their garden, a seasonal bouquet or flowers in natural tones suits the city's character.
Health NZ's current page for Nelson Hospital does not mention flowers. The former Nelson Marlborough DHB has stated that patients who are immunocompromised, in isolation or in ICU, HDU, IMCU or SCBU areas should not receive flowers, while general wards were fine. Because that policy is archived, check with the ward before sending.
Wakapuaka Cemetery on Atawhai Drive dates from 1861 and has more than 16,000 burials, the Garin Memorial Chapel (1890) and a crematorium built in 1945. For a funeral or memorial, send flowers to the funeral director or the family's home, not the cemetery gates. Our sympathy flowers guide has advice on wording and timing. If the service is on a weekend or public holiday, order a day or two early, as delivery is limited in many areas at those times.
If your flowers are going to Richmond, Motueka or elsewhere in Tasman, see our Tasman region page. For rural properties, use the RD number exactly as the recipient writes it; rural addresses can take longer.
New Zealand postcodes have four digits. The first two show the area, and the third shows the delivery type, such as street, PO Box or Rural Delivery. If the postcode you have been given does not match the kind of address, check it with the recipient before you order.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead.
