Order flowersBeachlands and Pine Harbour form a coastal community of about 8,330 people on the Pōhutukawa Coast, beside the Tāmaki Strait and about 20 km east of Auckland City Centre. The traditional name for the area is Kahawairahi, after the kahawai once plentiful in these waters, and Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki are mana whenua. The modern suburb began in 1922, when farmland was subdivided and sold as a 'new marine garden suburb' of Auckland. Today it is a small place with a big commuter rhythm, and that is worth knowing before you send flowers.

The 570-berth Pine Harbour Marina is the area's main transport hub, with a ferry to central Auckland running 20 departures per day each way on weekdays. Many residents work in the city, so a home delivery on a weekday may sit until evening. Two ways around it:
Old Beachlands runs along a string of bays – Sunkist Bay, Pohutukawa Bay, View Bay and Shelly Bay – where houses often come with a quarter-acre section. The newer areas of Pine Harbour, Spinnaker Bay and Pony Park have modern houses with smaller gardens. Use the correct locality along with the street and house number, and add the recipient's phone number. Weekend and public-holiday delivery is limited in many areas, so if the date matters, order early in the week.
Homes here collect their own rain water, so in a dry summer a potted plant or a long-lasting arrangement may be the kinder choice. Flowers should go into water quickly on a warm day; our guide to making flowers last in a Kiwi summer has simple tips you can pass on. Ōmana Regional Park, just to the east, covers about 41 hectares with views over the Hauraki Gulf – a reminder of why so many people settle here.
Beachlands School, first opened in 1925, is a full primary with a roll of 617. There is no secondary school in the area; free buses run to colleges such as Howick College and Botany Downs Secondary College, so a prize-giving or graduation bouquet may be needed further afield. Te Puru Sports Centre, between Beachlands and Maraetai, is the shared hub of the Pōhutukawa Coast community, and the Beachlands RSA Hall dates from 1948. For more ideas, see our graduation flowers guide, and other towns on our Auckland region page.
